[ARCHIVED] ADVISORY: High Fire Danger for Ketchikan Area

Burn Restriction

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

This is a joint release from the Ketchikan Area Fire Chiefs, including North Tongass Fire Department, South Tongass Fire Department, and Ketchikan Fire Department. Due to the recent run of warm weather with no precipitation, effective immediately and until further notice, no burn permits will be issued and open burning of any kind is highly discouraged.

The forecast from the National Weather Service in Juneau calls for warm temperatures, lower humidity, and no measurable precipitation until at least Wednesday, August 1rst, in addition, we will have winds in the 10 to 20 mph range for the next several days. The combination of these weather factors may push the fire danger into the "very high" range and provide an environment where fire has the potential to spread rapidly.
