We have heard rumors in the community and want to assure the public that the Port of Ketchikan remains open and that barge services are still fully functioning. The barge companies in Ketchikan have confirmed that operations are progressing normally. There is no anticipated change in barge service. The Port of Ketchikan remains open.
The Ketchikan Visitors Bureau released information yesterday announcing the Canadian Government’s decision to close ports to passenger vessels carrying 500 or more people onboard until July 1, 2020. While this impacts the Alaska cruise season, it does not impact U.S. flagged vessels and does not impact the flow of goods and services to Alaska.
There are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ketchikan. If that changes, the Ketchikan EOC will work diligently to ensure the public is notified and to take all actions necessary to respond to the situation in order to protect our community. We continue to work together to make sure that Ketchikan has the most up-to-date information available with access to key information.
