[ARCHIVED] MEDIA RELEASE: COVID-19 | FACILITY UPDATE

Media Release KTN EOC 20200315

This updates the facility information released on Friday, March 13, 2020.

The City of Ketchikan has announced that it will close the Ketchikan Public Library and Tongass Historical Museum effective today, March 15, 2020, through March 31, 2020. The Ketchikan Library and Museum will not be open to the public beginning today, March 15, through March 31, 2020.

This decision is made in an effort to be proactive and out of an abundance of caution. The closure of these public facilities is done in accordance with the recommendations of the Alaska Governor and the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services to implement social distancing. By implementing social distancing, we can help our community to “flatten the curve” and reduce the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus.

We continue to recommend that large public gatherings and events be canceled over the next two-week period. For events that cannot be canceled, we encourage online or telephonic participation. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as appropriate.

For Borough Assembly meetings we encourage the public to access the live feed via KPU, GCI, or online at http://borough-ketchikan.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?publish_id=3. Citizens may submit public comments be read into the record to boroclerk@kgbak.us.

For City Council meetings we encourage the public to access the live feed via KPU, GCI, or online at www.ktn-ak.us/current-agendas-and-minutes . During this time, Ketchikan citizens can submit questions or comments to be read aloud during the meeting to clerks@city.ketchikan.ak.us.

There are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ketchikan. If that changes, the Ketchikan EOC will work diligently to ensure the public is notified and to take all actions necessary to respond to the situation in order to protect our community. We continue to work together to make sure that Ketchikan has the most up-to-date information available with access to key information.
